Leading the Change We Want to See

Michael Fullan offers these Six Guidelines for Principals who want to lead the change they want to see:
           1.  De-privatize teaching.
           2.  Model instructional leadership.
           3.  Build capacity first.
           4.  Grow other leaders.
           5.  Divert the distractors.
           6.  Be a system leader.

           Each of these guidelines is explained below with a connecting link to one of the six outcomes of the Iowa Core Curriculum. Practical examples are given not as “the answer” but as protocols to raise questions in minds of readers that will further systems thinking.  Hopefully this discussion will give rise to ideas on how to build the practice of systems thinking and the Iowa Core Curriculum into the everyday life of your “school system.”
